Remembering Moonchild and jR

memorial

This past year, we said a heavy goodbye to two cherished members and dear friends, Moonchild and jR. Their presence and impact on our community are deeply missed. To honor their memory, we will be holding a special pre-game tribute before the Grand Finals of our Gibus Cup on Sunday, September 21st @ 8:00 PM SGT @ https://www.twitch.tv/firesidecasts. We'll share some cherished memories and premiere a tribute video created by all of you.

The tribute video and a recording of the message will be posted here afterward for those who cannot make it. We hope you'll be there to cherish our memories with them and celebrate their life together.

Official Statement from jR's Family:

Hello everyone.

We are deeply saddened to inform you that Fauzi is no longer with us.
He was a bright individual, full of life and love for his family and
friends. Unfortunately, he experienced a moment of vulnerability that
he was unable to overcome.

Please keep him in your prayers, and remember the best of him.

In these times, please respect our family's space as we grieve his
loss. We humbly request that you do not speculate or spread statements
that would cause us to experience further pain. If you have any
messages or tributes for him, please reach out to me personally
through Instagram @firrion, through Facebook (Fred Rusli), or through
my personal number for those that have it, so that I can keep it for
the family.

The stories he told, the lessons he taught, the love he shared – these
are the treasures of his legacy. Honour him.

From and on behalf of his family, Fred Rusli

We also have a heartfelt post curated by Dale in memory of Moonchild. We can't fit the full thing here, so if you want to have a read of the whole document, please check it out here (thank you!)

Outside of his incredible achievements and victories, he might have been known for his “hard shoulder” personality, but he was beloved by many of his friends, whether helping them to get into 6s or creating countless memories with them. Rank 1 Soldier in Tempus Network and a great friend of Moonchild Vice stated:

He was chill, quite smart, and encouraging. Besides (our time spent
in) jump, he helped me a lot in 6s too when I played as roamer back
then. I definitely learned a lot from him both in and out of the game

Moonchild’s ex-teammate Tissueman also shared some of his impressions:

Moonchild has been a guy that has a tough shell from the very start,
when you just become teammates or interact with him for the first
time. But on the inside, though, he's a really kind guy who has a lot
of love and care towards his friends and is a great teammate to have
in 6s and Highlander. He may be blunt with feedback and getting his
point across, but it is all in good faith, and that's what my
experience with Moonchild as a friend and as a teammate. He's a great
player that has significant moments in the competitive scene and
placed a mark in the Asian side of the Jumper community, tough and
straight forward when he needs to, and one heck of a funny guy when
the circumstance allows it to happen.

Another person who had great memories with Moonchild was Submarine and he also shared his sentiments:

Moonchild was a really polarizing guy; he had a certain vibe that
really could never be matched. But if you got him, you got him. While
he was stubborn at times and was rage baiting us most of the time, it
really came from a place of friendship and his way of showing he
cared. Many moments we’ve spent outside of tf2 were the most I’ve
enjoyed of my time in covid with Moonchild and the rest of the friend
group.

Moonchild eventually stopped playing competitively around 2022, and afterwards, he proceeded to take a more laid-back approach – spending time with his friends online in other games such as Destiny 2 while still active, trying to achieve records on jump maps. His last ever known jump record, which is also unfortunately his last known public video in his YouTube channel, was his run in jump_snowshot under 1 minute, which at the time, Moonchild ranked 3rd out of 579 in the entire world. Until this day, and with all the runs he completed along with his fastest runs, Moonchild is still currently Rank 165 in the Soldier category worldwide and Rank 5 in Singapore.

Even though his love for Team Fortress 2 unfortunately faded at the end of his career, Moonchild will be forever remembered not only for his amazing achievements and outstanding moments, but also as a great friend to many of his loved ones. Whether you’ve known him as qcuak, mi corazon, or other aliases that he used in the past, he will always be known as one of the most talented players AsiaFortress ever had.

You can watch Moonchild's tribute video made by D4le that we showcased on stream here
